Meet Grace!
We are so excited to have another intern join the Sidekick team! When Grace told us she went to school for journalism and that she is a completely self-taught designer, our jaws dropped. She is a seriously talented illustrator, designer and photographer! She’s already been impressing us with cool icons, posters designs and logos and we can’t wait to see what she produces next. Read on to learn a little more about Grace!
How did you get into illustration and graphic design?
I’ve always loved drawing and grew up as a serial doodler. When I graduated from college and didn’t know what I wanted to do, I started an Instagram account to encourage myself to create more. I started to follow a lot of artists that were self taught and it made me feel like I could do it too. Eventually it clicked that this is what I’m happiest doing.
Where do you draw inspiration for your designs?
The internet is a huge source where I have learned about a lot of my favorite designers. But I also have always collected little sources of inspiration. I have a collection from antique fairs and consignment stores of stuff I love. Things like old postcards, stamps, campaign buttons, and patches.
Print or digital?
Print.
Serif or sans serif?
Sans serif.
Coffee or tea?
Tea! Earl grey with a little milk.
Favorite tv show?
The Wire.
Hidden talent?
I know most every Christmas song. I sing them all year long. I also can usually guess correctly the flavor calendar at Martha’s.
What do you like to do when you're not designing?
I love to... cook, run, crochet, do crosswords, watch movies, and play with my puppy. And during the summer, I try to spend as much time as possible in the lake.
